Morningstar has rated Lazards the best Isa provider on a risk adjusted basis, followed by Investec and Barclays Global Investors (BGI).
The research, which takes into account 36 months of fund returns until the end of March 2003, ranks groups out of a maximum possible five points. Lazards scored 4.29, Investec 4.25 and BGI 4.2
These figures are calculated using the average Morningstar ratings for each group's Isa funds, which take into account the effect of costs and risk on fund performance. For March's survey Edinburgh Portfolio Managers displayed the best improvement over the month, rising 23 places to rank at 10. It showed an average rating of 3.38.
Other gainers included Roths-child, which rose 18 places to number 35, and Britannic, which had an increase of 16 places, to a current ranking of 31.
Edinburgh Unit Trust Managers, Scottish Amicable and Scottish Widows shared the largest drop in performance, with each company falling 11 places to rankings of 44, 22 and 34 respectively.
Artemis joined the league table at number 35, its group rating now including the ABN Amro funds which Artemis began managing after the merger of the two companies.
