The Government is looking at how it can market Sandler stakeholder to help ensure its success.
As a result the Treasury is to look into the creation of a stakeholder logo for providers and distributors to use to promote the products.
In its response to the consultation paper the Government appeared keen to distance itself to an extent from stakeholder. It believes that if the product is too closely associated with the Government, consumers might think the Government had underwritten it. However it has not ruled out what it termed 'wider marketing activity'.
It has decided that the Cat-standard cash, insurance and equity Isas should be moved into the stakeholder range so that consumers are not confused. Even so it has decided that the Cat-standard mortgage is to remain in place.
The product providers' response to the consultation was less concerned with the name given to the Sandler suite than the type and extent of marketing needed to ensure its success. Many explicitly called for a government marketing campaign.
