Flats have proven the best property investment over the past 10 years, according to the Halifax. Average flat prices have appreciated by 149% between the third quarter of 1992 and the third quarter of 2002, compared to an all property average of 112%. Terraced houses posted the next highest rise, up 120%, with detached the property laggard, although still up 102% over 10 years. Price growth was weakest in Scotland, up 39%, with the strongest gains seen across the South and East Anglia. Predictably, Greater London posted the strongest gains, up 181%.
