In the wake of changes to Gartmore's UK equity portfolio construction, Ben Wallace has joined the UK equity team as a senior investment manager.
Wallace's move from Deutsche Asset Management to Gartmore follows the recent appointments of Rob Giles, Sacha Sadan and Chris Burvill to the team.
Wallace will initially work on the Alpha and Alpha Plus teams, which were created following an extensive review of UK equity portfolio construction by Jon Thornton, head of UK equities, who joined in February.
As UK equity fund manager at DAM, Wallace was responsible for a variety of retail and institutional mandates and held analyst responsibilities for the global telecoms equipment sector. Prior to this role, he was part of Deutsche's UK equity research team where he specialised in tobacco, food and speciality financials.
According to Thornton, Wallace brings to Gartmore a strong investment track record and a broad range of analytical and stock selection skills including extensive mid-cap experience.
"Ben has impressed both buy-side peers and the broking community, and his strong track record is best exemplified by the 3% outperformance relative to the FTSE All Share over the last twelve months of the UK portfolio of the Anglo & Overseas Investment Trust," says Thornton.
