Europe's competition authorities will investigate barriers to competition commencing with financial services, as no change to regulations in Europe would risk the creation of more jobs in the UK, says Gordon Brown.
A similar move to help small businesses will see the creation of small business investment schemes acting as venture capital programmes.
Brown says proposals have been tabled for the cration of British Small Business Investment Companies, backed by Government incentives, to try and pull the British economy and business sector up to the same standard as the US market.
According to Brown, almost 60% of all venture capital investments is in American small business, and it is this method which helped small business become the larger players such as Intel, Apple and Fed-Ex.
The BSCI scheme should allow development of private sector vehicles which inject new capital into small and medium sized firms, however, it is unclear at this stage how they will be run and whether they will be led by the financial services industry.
Partner Insight: For Blackfinch, the arrival of its IHT portfolio services was a 'natural evolution' in the group's offering and points to an established track record of returning cash to investors.
