A hedge funds training day for intermediaries organised by Hedge Funds Review, Investment Week's sister publication, is to be held on 6 February at the Carlton Club in London.
The event is designed to introduce the little-understood alternative investment industry to UK intermediaries, who are increasingly being targeted by fund of hedge fund products.
The programme includes the history and basics of the hedge fund industry, including fee structures. There is particular focus on the different strategies available to investors, including long/short strategies, the best-known hedge fund structure.
Other strategies covered include event-driven arbitrage, global macro, equity market neutral and managed futures.
In particular, the focus will be on the place hedge funds have in traditional client portfolios in terms of risk/reward ratios. The training day also covers the measurement of hedge fund performance and the tools available to the intermediary market.
Other topics include funds of hedge funds and guaranteed wrappers around hedge funds.
The course is run by Beverly Chandler, managing editor of Hedge Funds Review, and costs £395 plus VAT, including lunch.
