Life insurance analyst Ned Cazalet is to act as consultant on a fund of with-profits funds launched last month by Circus Capital.
The Diversified Smooth Growth portfolio will invest in a range of with-profits funds from different institutions. The portfolio will be split 40%-70% equities, 20%-40% cash and bonds and 5%-15% commercial property.
Cazalet said: 'In the past, some might have regarded one life company as much the same as another in terms of financial strength; now it is important for intermediaries and investors to take care when choosing a with-profits provider.'
The fund focuses on investing in with-profits vehicles from companies that are financially strong.
Cazalet said: 'Companies that have substantial reserves and therefore investment freedom have the ability to provide access to actively managed investment portfolios.'
The fund, which is available in euros and dollars, invests in overseas with-profits funds as well as UK funds from providers such as Prudential and Norwich Union. Circus Capital, a Hong Kong-based investment firm with offices in London, will use some hedging within the portfolio through the use of options to minimise currency risks.
Partner Insight: Cathi Harrison, director of para-sols and Apricity and Clare Farrell managing director at Northfield Wealth met in London recently to discuss how to stay on top of regulatory risk.
