Performance figures for the month of September show the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index is down 0.8% for September 2001 and up 2.2% for the year. That compares to a gain of 0.9% in the index during the month of August.
Roland Lorenzo, president and chief operating officer of Credit Suisse First Boston Tremont Index LLC, said: 'Although down slightly at -0.8% for the month, the Index significantly outperformed the Dow, down 11.1%, the S&P 500, down 8.2%, and the Nasdaq, down 17%'
'The year-to-date numbers speak volumes about the positive impact hedge funds have in diversified portfolios. The index is up 2.2% while all other indices are down between 18% and 39.3%.'
