Barclays Global Investors has appointed Global Risk Management to implement its corporate governance policy of active shareholder engagement. GRM will research companies for BGI and will help the fund management giant use its power as a major shareholder to apply pressure on social, ethical and environmental issues. The asset manager justified the decision and said that persuading companies to adopt good social, ethical and environmental policies can protect company reputation and brand, thereby safeguarding shareholder value.
