Sofa is calling for financial services degrees to be included in the eventual list of appropriate exams to be maintained by the Skills Council for Financial Services, an independent body established by the Department for Skills and Education.
Vice chairman of the society, Phil Billingham, who also runs a specialist training and competency consultancy, said while the proposals set out in the FSA's consultation paper 194 are a step in the right direction, he is keen to see the examination structure changed to incorporate financial degrees offered by an increasing number of educational institutions.
'We are looking to introduce a clear career path in the financial services industry starting in education,' he added. 'The current message on exams, by excluding degree courses, fails to do that.'
