Some 20 members of Abbey Life's 47 strong investment team are to relocate to Hill Samuel Asset Management's offices in London.
The move comes after Hill Samuel assumed management responsibility for Abbey Life's 70 funds and unit trusts. The funds were managed by Abbey Life Investment Services, based in Bournemouth
Stephen Payne and Matthew Robertson are to join Hill Samuel's UK desk led by Sandra Willans, head of UK retail. Payne manages three Abbey Life unit trusts Assets & Earnings, Dividend & Growth and High Income Equity
Edward Gaunt, manager of the £320.5m Abbey Japan unit trust, is joining Hill Samuel's Japan desk. Over three years Gaunt's fund rose by 9.2%, according to Micropal, whereas Hill Samuel Japan Growth rose by 20.5% during the same period. Hill Samuel's property team will now be headed by Richer Cross from Abbey Life Investment Services. He replaces Robert Dismoor who has left Hill Samuel. Other people relocating to London include members of the Bournemouth-based group's client liaison team
Abbey Life has a total of £14bn in funds under management, £3bn of which was already managed by Hill Samuel which itself has £40bn under management. Both groups have stated in the past that there will not be any rebranding or merging of funds
