Some 97% of IFAs and 100% of product providers have internet access but only a quarter of brokers have their own website.
According to research for the the eXchange conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers, 80% of product providers have their own website compared with only 26% of IFAs.
Around 25% of IFAs and product providers use the internet daily while another 12% go online at least once a week.
Some 90% use the internet at work with 72% having access to the web at home, according to the survey.
The research also found that some 59% of consumer respondents used financial websites just to access information but more than a third of respondents said they would continue to use IFAs.
Nicola Mitchell, marketing communications director for the eXchange, said: "It is clear that the market for internet financial services is enormous.
"We are delighted that so many people are now learning the basics of personal financial planning through internet-based services.
"Sites such as these are perfect for both consumers and the financial services industry because they offer customers independent and up-to-the minute information
"They also offer the links to get professional independent advice when more complex financial purchases are being made."
