UK stocks rose this morning paced by Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
The benchmark FTSE 100 is currently up 20 points to 4,133.20.
Royal Bank of Scotland gained 44p to £16.65 after Britain's second-largest lender deemed first-half profit would live up to analysts' forecasts.
Barclays gained 3.75p to 443p after the bank received approval from Spain's stock market regulator for its 1.14bn euro bid for Banco Zaragozano SA, Spain's eighth-largest bank.
Chubb advanced 2.25p to 71.5p after speculation that the world's third-largest provider of security services agreed to accept a takeover offer of about 75 pence a share from United Technologies Corp.
Meanwhile, Yates Group dropped 2p to 82.5p.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index rose 101.21 points to 8,890.30 earlier today, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng dropped 47.14 points to 9,656.58.
On Wall Street, trading ended up yesterday as the Dow Jones Industrial Average index gained 74.89 points to 9,054.89 by the close.
The S&P 500 index gained 8.91 points to 984.84, and Nasdaq's Composite index advanced 23.70 points to 1,627.67.
