Analysts at Bestinvest have just issued four 'recommended' and one 'strong buy' ratings to five funds the company says investors should look at.
The Dresdner REM UK Mid-cap and Dresdner RCM UK Growth funds both receive a rating of three hollow stars, hence a 'recommended' status, due to the management of Trevor Green, who is likely to benefit both from his own research and resources available to him at DRCM.
The Gam Star American Focus offshore fund gets four hollow stars and a 'strong buy' recommendation from Bestinvest due to the record of manager James Abate at his previous job in charge of the Credit Suisse TransAtlantic fund.
Abate will also benefit from a strong team of analysts backing his stockpicking abilities.
The Edinburgh US Tracker investment trust gets three stars and a 'recommended' rating because of its lack of gearing - it is not allowed to borrow against assets - low management charges and tempting discount.
Finally, Lazard's European Smaller Companies fund gets three stars and a 'recommended' rating because performance figures support the "value approach" and provide confidence in the management team's ability to deliver continued returns.
