Aegon Asset Management is to offer a fixed interest Isa as of next year.
As yet, the group is not decided on whether to launch a new product or include its existing bond Oeic sub-funds in the wrapper.
Fixed interest funds Aegon runs include the Guardian Gilt & Fixed Interest, Aegon European Bond, UK Extra Income and the Socially Responsible Interest funds.
Jon Bennett, director retail fund business at Aegon, said the Isa is part of the group's strategy to target the advisory market with fixed interest as it perceives that this is where there will be more demand for investment products for the coming Isa season.
Bennett said: 'When we launched, we wanted to emphasise our expertise in the equity market. There is a perception that life companies are good at fixed interest and not so good at active management. Now we have made our reputation in that area, we feel it is safe to push our bond capabilities.'
Aegon is to consult with advisers to determine exactly what type of fixed interest product there is most interest in before finalising its offering. Bennett said the details of the product should be finalised by mid-December and that the new product would be rolled out in 2002.
An added tier of asset management can of course deliver additional benefits for certain investors, writes Graham Bentley - just be sure you can justify it to the regulator and, especially, the client
The government is "in daily contact" with industry figures over the pensions dashboard as it prepares for the roll-out and its feasibility report, Guy Opperman has said.
