March 2002 traffic figures from financial websites directory www.find.co.uk, shows consumers returned to equity investment, rather than cash, following the volatility of 2000/2001.
The March figures reveal equity ISA traffic was greater than Cash ISA traffic in the run up to the end of the 2001/2 ISA season.
This is a reversal of the picture at the end of the 2000/1 ISA season. Against the 2000/20001 backdrop of stockmarket uncertainty the safer Cash ISA option proved more popular.
Overall interest in ISAs has increased 58% on 2001 and overtaken interest in Personal Loans for the first time.
John Perceval, Managing Director of www.find.co.uk commented: "In March ISAs had their usual end of tax year increase even though stockmarkets remain flat. They climbed to 2nd place in terms of online popularity and moved ahead of Personal Loans for the first time."
"There were also a number of indications that people are more optimistic about stock market investment. For example Equity ISAs were ahead of Cash ISAs in March as well as in February and Online Share Dealing traffic is up 50% year-on-year and back in the Top 10. Also, Internet traffic to Fund Supermarkets and Discount Brokers grew strongly in March, back up to the levels of a year ago," added Perceval.
