The launch of the new National Savings & Investments advertising campaign rang a few familiar bells amongst financial advisors in Basingstoke this week.
National Savings & Investments new multi million pound press campaign and logo are almost identical to the logo and advertising material used by small IFA firm, Protection & Investment Limited. Both feature the traditional English horse chestnut.
Protection & Investments Chairman Brian Brown, former chief executive of the TSB Group's highly successful Bancassurance operation – TSB Trust Company, Commented: "How embarrassing for National Savings to discover that their expensive marketing campaign uses the same approach as Protection & Investment. I hope they will be man enough to give us our Conkers back!"
Protection & Investment Managing Director, Ian Carr, said: "Although a direct copy of our approach, I am pleased that most of our Chestnuts have borne fruit – the National Savings adverts feature just one solitary Conker, no doubt reflecting, the narrowness of their product range."
Perhaps Protection & Investment and National Savings should meet for a "Conker Match" with the winner having the right to retain their Conkers.
