Hargreaves Lansdown has put on hold the promotion of with-profit bonds. The group sees three possible scenarios for world stock markets. Firstly, markets rise but with-profit bonds cannot increase their bonuses until huge repair to free asset reserves has occurred. Secondly, if markets drift sideways, life companies will become nervous and may switch to gilts. Thirdly, if markets decline free asset ratios may dwindle to zero.
