Woolwich Life has launched a Guaranteed Equity Bond with sections linked to the FTSE 100 Index.
The Guaranteed Equity Bond offers stock market growth, while guaranteeing a return of initial capital at the end of a five-year period. At the end of the term a return based on the growth of the FTSE 100 is payable up to a maximum of 40% of the original investment.
An average of the FTSE 100 index over the final 12 months will determine the investment return. This means investors will not be fully affected by a sudden drop in the index and equally, will not benefit fully from growth in the last year.
If the index falls, the original investment is returned as a minimum. However, a full return of capital may not be received if the bond is cashed in early.
The minimum investment is £6,000 and the maximum is £500,000. Investment is set to start on 5 January 2001 and will mature on 5 January 2006.
Customers will have a bonus of up to 0.75% added to their capital according to when they make their investment.
The Guaranteed Equity Bond is available through branch-based advisers until 9 December 2000, although the issue may close earlier depending on demand.
