UK net lending increased by £4.8bn in September, however the British Banker's Association said only half of the month's approved mortgages were for house purchase. Instead, individuals are looking for better deals for their mortgages. Gross mortgage lending totaled £13.2bn in September 2002, 8% lower than in August.
