Legal & General accounted for 7.8% of the total UK mortgage market business in 2001as the number of completed home loans placed by intermediaries via the company reached a record £12.7bn compared to £8.1bn the previous year.
Intermediaries placed three-quarters of the mortgages completed through Legal & General's Mortgage Club, which has a network of over 6,000 mortgage intermediaries offering loans from a panel of UK lenders that between them account for over 50% cent of all mortgages arranged in the UK.
Legal & General adds over 80% of the mortgage business placed by intermediaries via its Mortgage Club can be submitted to lenders online.
A second generation service offering more choice and greater functionality to intermediaries is scheduled for launch in the spring.
