Recent rulings by the European Court of Justice and the House of Lords have prompted the Department for Work and Pensions to issue a consultation paper regarding part-time workers' rights of access to occupational pension schemes. DWP is looking to bring UK legislation into line with European law following court rulings that successful claims can be backdated to 8 April 1976 or the starting date of employment, if later. Claims have to be made within six months of leaving a job.
