As part of Gartmore's expansion into the Italian market, the investment group has appointed Nicola Meotti as Country Manager where he will be responsible for developing business with Italian institutional investors, commercial banks, private bankers and other bancassurance distributors. Gartmore is also opening an office in Milan.
Meotti joins Gartmore from ING Investment Management where he had been Head of the Institutional Clients Division since 1998, responsible for managing the institutional client sales unit, marketing, new product development, and sales to a target audience of Italian and international banks, brokers, insurance and fund companies.
Gartmore said the focus of its Italian business will be based on offering a selected range of few, but highly successful, investment management products which will differentiate upon investment style and risk return profile with the aim of adding value to clients' investments. Gartmore said it is actively recruiting a team to support Meotti.
Patrick Van de Steen, Head of Gartmore Continental Europe Retail commented: "We perceive a flight towards quality in many Continental European markets. This drives our expansion into Italy and we are delighted that Nicola Meotti will head this effort. We look forward to continuing to expand on the European business platform which we have established in Frankfurt and Stockholm by building up a successful Italian operation."
Nicola Meotti said: "At the moment the Italian market is very interested in the products of specialist investment managers who can really add value through their investment management process and highly successful product diversification. There is an abundance of opportunities for a company that has a strong reputation as a high quality investment management company."
