The Investec European Portfolio Trust
The objective of the Investec European Portfolio Trust is perfectly straightforward: to provide investors with long-term capital appreciation from investment in a diversified portfolio of companies listed on the Continental European Stock Exchanges.
What is unusual about this Trust is the high quality and experience of the fund management team.
Investec Asset Management took the innovative step of appointing BlackRock International as sub adviser on its range of European retail funds in April 2000 and since then the Trust has leapt to the upper echelons of the performance tables and has quickly grown to be £119m in size.
The fund management team consists of six individuals each of whom has over 14 years experience in financial markets.
In May, Standard & Poor's Fund Research the leading independent research agency again reviewed this team and once again the Investec European Portfolio Trust was awarded a 'AA' rating.
This independent vote of confidence endorses the vital role played by fund manager Albert Morillo and his team. A hallmark of the Investec European Portfolio Trust is its focussed style as the portfolio tends to hold around 35 holdings at any one time.
The process is bottom up and stock specific yet acknowledges that macro factors are important and cannot be ignored. A sophisticated control system is in place to monitor, understand and facilitate the management of risk relative to the benchmark.
Morillo's style combines an in-depth knowledge and analysis of companies with market awareness and analysis of share price, with a flair for adapting to short-term market trends while producing overall long-term growth.
Since the appointment of the new management team, this Trust has consistently performed in the 1st quartile of funds in its sector, and has comfortably outperformed both the benchmark and the peer group*.
