HSBC has launched a new form of possessions insurance which should provide graduates and young professionals living in rented, shared accommodation with cheaper insurance cover on their goods.
Individuals who share or rent a home are often charged higher premiums and forced to carry restrictions on their home and contents insurance cover because insurance companies assume those living with you are either likely to steal goods or damage possessions and cost the insurance company a lot of money.
However, HSBC has released a new insurance policy today which will cover personal belongings and contents up to the value of £7,000, and all for additional cover on items which can be taken away from the home, such as cash, credit cards and bicycles.
Around 30% of UK households live in rented accommodation, according to the 1998 General Households Survey from the Office of National Statistics.
