"If the economics are right for Britain, we should join" says Gordon Brown. "From the assessment we have done", Brown says, "we have both seen the risks and the benefits to join", and adds that even though there are risks in joining the euro, there are also risks in delaying the benefits gained by joining. The Government's view, Brown says, is that if the case is clear - on the basis of the five economic tests - then it is in the national interest to join the euro.
