Fiona MacRae has been appointed to head the European equities at Scottish Widows Investment Management (SWIM) in the aftermath of the departure of Albert Morillo to BlackRock, a US fund management group with offices in Edinburgh.
Joining Morillo at BlackRock are two other members of SWIM's European team David Stanistreet and Ken Anderson. In her new position MacRae will take-over the management of the group's European unit trust. To strengthen the depleted team Mark Richardson from the UK desk and Kathleen Dewandeleer from the European Emerging Markets team will be joining MacRae.
BlackRock is currently looking to launch some European institutional portfolioos and hedge funds next year. BlackRock has also recruited two members of SWIM's client services team Allan McKenzie, who was head of institutional sales at SWIM and Richard Alexander, who was client relationship manager.
The departure of Albert Morillo makes it likely that David Kiddie, currently head of pan-European equities at Hill Samuel Asset Management, will be appointed to a similar role if the Hill Samuel and Scottish Widows merger is approved.
