Insurer AEGON UK, the parent company of Scottish Equitable and AEGON Asset Management, has appointed Peter Williams to the role of head of industry development. Williams, age 47, was previously Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) Training Manager for Scottish Equitable.
Williams has been with Scottish Equitable since 1977 and has been IFA Training Manager since 1995. In 2000 he was elected Chairman of the Society of Financial Advisers (SOFA), the first non-IFA to hold the position. This year he was elected Vice President of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
Williams will take a lead role alongside Laurie Edmans director of corporate communications and Stewart Ritchie, director of pensions development in developing AEGON UK's position with trade and industry bodies and their initiatives. He will also take a key role in industry conferences and with the media.
Laurie Edmans, director of corporate development for AEGON UK, commented: "Allied to my involvement and that of Stewart Ritchie, Peter's appointment is an indication of how seriously in AEGON we take our responsibilities in developing the broader interests of the industry."
