Citing the need for life to go on despite the imminent arrival of reviews that could change the pensions landscape forever, the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority has issued a new guide for pension scheme auditors.
Aimed at the occasional practitioner, who may not be dealing with pensions accounts on a continuing basis, the guide sets out the role and duties of auditors as they related to pension schemes.
An OPRA spokesman says the authority is well aware of the effects that the reviews, such as the Pickering Review into pensions simplification, may have.
But he adds that the time lag between measures being proposed and the introduction of the primary legislation necessary to implement the changes means it must go on issuing advice in the meantime, based on existing legislation.
The timescales are such that this booklet will have a useful shelf life. Life must go on until the primary legislation comes in."
