What matter's more - the right market, or the right fund manager?
All the academic research points to the fact that asset allocation is the largest contributor - both positive and negative - to an investor's portfolio? But what is more important - picking the right asset class or picking the right fund manager?
Last year was a very difficult one for multi asset investors, with the strong performance of gilts and index linked gilts catching out many multi-asset managers. Where should multi-asset funds be positioned in 2012? Is as simple as re-weighting towards last year's under performing asset classes, or will gilts still be the place to be?
