Pedro Fernandes, head of European ETPs at NYSE Euronext talks about his passion for Brazilian music and flying.
Who is your favourite author?
It really depends on the subject; I go more by the subject rather than the author.
So what are you currently reading?
I am reading a book by Romain Gary called The Life Before Us - it is lovely, funny and also realistic. It's about a Jewish woman who adopts a Muslim, Catholic and African kid and she educates them about their own culture.
It is really funny because she really tries to educate through their own culture while they live all together and she has a different religion.
Who would you most like to see in concert?
I love Brazilian music, it is one of my passions and there are thousands of singers in Brazil that most Europeans don't know.
One is Ivete Sangalo, she is the Brazilian Madonna. I saw her in Brazil at the Maracanã, which for a while was the biggest stadium in Brazil. It was amazing; her concert was full - there were about 100,000 people.
What is your ideal way of relaxing after a stressful day in the office?
I have several ways. The first way for me to relax is to do some sports, I like running. Things that are more difficult to do but I like are diving and when possible, I also like to fly.
I started flying lessons five months ago and it is something I really enjoy. When you are in the sky it helps you to relax after a stressful day.
If you weren't working in financial services, what would you be doing?
I would probably be in the aviation industry; it is one of my passions. I would like to be operating an aviation company.
