Cost main barrier for customers buying protection - Royal London

Almost 70% think premiums are too high

Some 69% of people think protection premiums are too expensive, while 49% of advisers believe customer inertia is one of the greatest barriers to people buying cover, Royal London's second State of the Protection Nation report has revealed.

Nearly half (46%) felt they were unlikely to go on sick leave for three months or more, 44% thought they were unlikely to have a major accident and 34% felt it was unlikely they would contract a serious health condition or illness. Meanwhile, research from Pacific Life Re (March 2018) showed that the chance of being off work for two months or more before age 65 is 26% for males and 37% for females.
