It's no secret that the equity release market has been calling for new providers to enter the market, but of late, it seems the attention is shifting more and more to high street banks and building societies. Such an influx of new providers could rejuvenate the market, but in the past, institutions such as banks have tried and failed to stay the distance. HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and NatWest have all been previously active players in the world of equity release, all coming into the market roughly around 2006.
