What a difference a year has made to equity release. We've seen a wave of product development from providers and lifetime mortgage sales increased to the highest levels since 2008. In addition, The Equity Release Council opened its doors to new members including IFAs and solicitors for the first time. There has also been renewed political discussion around how equity release can plug the retirement income gap. Not a bad year, for a niche area of financial services.
