Ian Stewart asks whether the SSAS market needs to see the return of pensioneer trustees

Like the now extinct dinosaurs that once roamed the earth, pensioneer trustees (PTs) once dominated the SSAS market. It was, after all, a requirement of the Inland Revenue that each SSAS required a PT to be approved at the outset and to continue to operate. In 2006, Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) removed this requirement and indeed did away with the role altogether replacing it with a potentially more onerous role, the scheme administrator.
