I am both saver and spender, 50:50 I'd say, but I keep hearing I need to be more one than the other.

When I spend, I spend well, throwing my hard-earned money back into the UK economy like a good citizen. Equally, when savings-conscious, I avoid shops like the plague and mull walking the 12 miles to work to avoid paying the rail fare. I repeat: mull. The reason I bring this up is, apparently, in “times like these”, I need to be saving more. Or is it spending more? I’m confused. Last week, Charlie Bean (no relation to Rowan Atkinson’s bad driving buffoon who sends himself Christmas cards), caused a bit of a stir.
