Employers who ignore their automatic enrolment duties could find themselves issued with a County Court Judgement (CCJ) ordering them to pay, The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has warned.
If a firm persistently ignores penalty notices issued by the regulator, it will be issued a CCJ - a court imposed fine. If it fails to pay within 30 days of receiving it, the CCJ will be entered on the employer's credit record and will remain there for six years, affecting its ability to borrow money. So far, the regulator has handed out a "handful" of the court fines, it said.
