Treasury second permanent secretary Sir John Kingman will take up his role as Legal & General group chairman on 24 October, the firm has said.
Kingman will replace John Stewart, who announced his retirement in November, and Rudy Markham, who served as interim chairman from June.
Markham will remain on the board as non-executive director until the AGM in 2017, the company added in a note to investors.
Senior independent director Julia Wilson said: "I wish to thank Rudy for his wisdom, guidance and stewardship during his years on the board and particularly for assuming the chairmanship over the last few months. The board is very grateful for Rudy's leadership."
