SunLife has announced changes to its critical illness cover (CIC) in line with updated best practice published a year ago by the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
SunLife said though its cancer and stroke definitions will remain ABI standard, its definition for heart attack is now ABI+. In December last year, the ABI announced its statement for best practice in CIC "brings the heart attack definition in line with clinical practice". SunLife's new heart attack definition requires a "rise of biochemical cardiac specific markers", which it said it hoped would be more "straightforward" for claimants.
