Budget 2015: DB transfer advice could become tax exempt

The government is introducing an income tax exemption for payments made for advice on transfers out of defined benefit (DB) schemes.

The exemption will apply to the cost of providing mandatory advice on employer-led liability management exercises. The government said this would usually be chargeable to tax as an employee benefit. The exemption will remove the charge and corresponding National Insurance contributions. It applies when the employer bears the cost of providing the advice and does not pass this on to employees through the use of salary sacrifice arrangements, for example.
