Small firms want to postpone auto-enrolment after pension reforms

Firms yet to reach their auto-enrolment (AE) staging dates want the process postponed until wide-reaching changes to the pensions system are finalised, according to research.

The Association of Consulting Actuaries' (ACA) 2014 Smaller Firms' Pensions Survey found nine out of ten small employers wanted a delay. They cited uncertainty around legislation and regulation relating to the retirement flexibilities announced in the Budget, ‘defined ambition' schemes, and a cap on defined contribution (DC) charges. But the survey found support for the latest changes with six out of ten employers backing the new retirement flexibilities and just one in ten opposed.
