Labour plans to pull extra 1.5m into auto-enrolment

Labour is set to announce plans that would see an extra 1.5 million workers automatically enrolled into a pension scheme.

The party is expected to announce on Thursday it would reduce the threshold for eligibility from £10,000 to £5,772, reports the Financial Times. This would see 1.5m more people, including some 1m women, auto-enrolled into a qualifying scheme. Currently, only workers who earn a minimum £10,000, and who are aged between 22 and state pension age, are automatically enrolled. Others can opt in to qualifying schemes, but must request it.
