The fund selection and fund research markets are a major part of the multi-trillion pound investment industry but who are the key players within it?
In the latest of our series of video interviews with the most respected individuals who select funds, decide ratings or otherwise influence the allocation of investor fund flows, we meet Simon Wood, head of manager selection at Aberdeen Asset Management.
In this role, he is responsible for the management on advice on more than £15bn of assets and is involved in all aspects of investment philosophy, asset allocation, fund research, selection and monitoring.
Wood, joined Aberdeen in 2014 following the group's purchase of Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) from Lloyds Banking Group. At SWIP, he was head of research with similar duties to now - having responsibility for both wholesale and segregated mandates and for the management on advice on more than £11bn of assets. Before working at SWIP, Wood was head of multi-manager research at Cazenove.
The Investment Influencers series, which has most recently featured Ian Crispo of Deutsche Bank, Andrew Summers of Investec Wealth & Investment and Simon Brett of Parmenion, offers insights into how key industry players see the world of investing and expect to deal with such challenges as greater market volatility, increased regulation and a growing trend towards short-termism.
