Unintended consequences? HM Revenue & Customs's (HMRC) latest clampdown on tax advisers could put clients off using their services, according to the FT.   Hugh Greenhalgh's piece said financial advisers and accountants had expressed doubts over the scope of the crackdown. The tax authority announced this week that accountants, financial advisers and tax specialists could be liable for promoting ‘aggressive' tax avoidance schemes.   The proposed crackdown was intended to prevent "would-be enablers" from endorsing tax schemes that "deny the country of vital tax revenue", said Treasu...
