Back in 2013 the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) outlined its hopes for "a market no longer defined by professional titles and one in which the artificial barriers created by those titles are breaking down rapidly". In fact, it said just that in its submission to the Ministry of Justice on the future of legal regulation.
