What the future holds for strategic bond funds

After a mixed 2011, the Sterling Strategic Bond sector has made a positive start to this year. Charlotte Richards finds out whether this trend is set to continue.

The first half of 2011 was positive for the Sterling Strategic Bond funds with strong inflows making it one of the top three selling sectors from January to July. Sales dipped, however, in August and September in line with net retail sales of all funds hitting their lowest since 2008. The sector nevertheless rebounded and in October was the top seller, with net retail sales of £238m. Optimism surrounding fixed income in general continued into the New Year, with January seeing its highest sales since October 2010. Strategic and corporate bonds proved the most popular.
