Broker launches e-petition to scrap tax on PMI

An insurance broker has launched an e-petition to reinstate tax relief on private medical insurance following a decade of price rises for consumers.

The petition, set up by Trevor Hunter a broker at Halcyon Healthcare, currently has 60 signatures. Hunter set up the petition, which will be submitted to parliament, earlier this month because he said prices had risen too much and were becoming unaffordable. He also said a reduction in critical illness or medical insurance premiums would benefit advisers. Reasons for the rises include the cost and complexity of treatment.
