The Government is to abolish VAT on care in the home, after significant pressure over its long-term care policy. Scotland is the only country in the UK which has made concessions in the financing of home care services outside the hospital or hospice, but there have been demands from care support bodies and the financial services industry to even out the balance. Removal of the cost of VAT on home help and medical support is expected to benefit around 60,000 people who buy these services, says John Healey, economic secretary to the Treasury and Minister for Customs and Excise. ...
