Here are five things clients may have read in the bank holiday weekend's papers…

Fund closures A record number of funds are set to close this year, according to the Sunday Times, with nearly 1,000 funds failing to beat the market. Since the start of the year 136 retail funds have closed, compared with 66 closures in the same period last year. Structured products The FT carries a special report on the pros and cons of structured products. The investments pay out about 8% per year when returns on cash are just 0.5%, but the sector faces pressure after Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) chief executive Martin Wheatley called them "spread bets on steroids".
